However, we all need good quality sleep to keep our minds and bodies healthy. If we carry on sleeping badly, we start to notice the effects.

What is Sleep?

Sleep is the regular period in every 24 hours when we are unconscious and unaware of our surroundings.

The occasional night without sleep or poor quality sleep will make you feel tired the next day, but it won't harm your physical or mental health. However, after several sleepless or poor quality nights sleep, you will start to find that:

-you are tired all the time
-you drop off during the day
-you find it difficult to concentrate
-you find it hard to make decisions
-you start to feel depressed.

This can be very dangerous if you are driving or operating heavy machinery. Many deaths are caused each year by people falling asleep at the wheel while driving. Lack of sleep or poor quality sleep may also make us more vulnerable to high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.

What do you consider is perfect sleep for you?

The number of hours you have slept without interruption? Having a full 8 hours sleep? There are experts that will tell you that to achieve perfect sleep you have to have this many hours a night every night and that the hours change as we get older. But it is not just the hours of sleep that are important but the quality of that sleep.

A child that has problems sleeping turns to it’s mum or dad in the middle of the night. Mums and dads love to help but often do not know how and eventually the child falls asleep due to exhaustion or cries itself to sleep.

As the child grows its sleeping patterns and quality of sleep affect that child’s daily life. Often we find that the child has not much joy in going to school, and the same child will almost always not achieve the best of its life potential that they other wise could have had.

What is the value of perfect sleep?

For you: What is it if you have 10 or 20 years or more of your life and you have every day, 2 or more hours to concentrate on all that you most wish to enjoy and love, no matter what age you are at.

What if you can get 2 hours a day more, what would be the out come of any project at any age if you had, 2 more hours a day well motivated and concentrated on what you love to have in your life most, at any age, at your before school time, or school time after school time?

For your child: think if they had 2 hours more available just before any exam fully awake and sharp to study more than most other kids, what difference this would make to any short term or long term goal in their life.
